Fire Stations 53 and 14 (Nancy Run) were alerted at 02:14 for a dwelling fire in the 500 block of Georgetown Road in Lower Nazareth Township. 5353 (AC Brooks) responded to the scene and confirmed a working basement fire and the dwelling charged with smoke. 5353 established the 53 Command and requested the second alarm. The resident who was alerted by a smoke detector had evacuated prior to fire units arriving. 5311 (Lt. Cortright) responded with a crew of 4 and stretched a line to the basement. The crew contained the fire to the room of origin and began ventilation. 5331 (Chief Seip) arrived on the scene and provided a water supply to 5311. The crew from Tower 1421 threw ground ladders and assisted with ventilation. 5312 (FF Rolen) laid a supply line to the hydrant at the corner of Ash Drive and Georgetown Road. All second alarm units with the exception of 1513 (Hanover Township Northampton County) were held in quarters when the fire was confirmed to be under control.

The homeowner was able to escape with no injuries and the damage was limited to the basement because of a working smoke detector. The smoke detector woke the resident and allowed enough time to escape and quickly call 911. Please take the time to test your smoke detectors and replace the batteries regularly.
