By Assistant Chief Ryan Hinkel
July 16, 2011
The HVFCo. was dispatched as part of the first alarm assignment for a commercial structure fire at 11 McFadden Road in Palmer Township at approximately 11:10. 5311 responded with staffing of 3 and was directed by 27 Command (Commissioner Grube) to supply the sprinkler system. 5311 established water to the FDC and was supplied by E-1413 who laid out with 800' of 5" supply line. 5311's water thief was stretched to a man door on the B side of the structure with hand lines advanced to the fire through the building. Master streams from Ladder 2721, Tower 5021, and ground monitors and hand lines from both trucks and engine 2211 were used for the defensive attack. Heavy equipment from local contractors was brought in to break up the large piles of burning plastic. Rescue 1 from Lehigh Valley International Airport was utilized to apply foam and darken down the remaining fire. Crews worked for several hours to overhaul the material outside the building and extinguish the remaining fire inside the structure.
